Terrible news, but not surprising sadly. He's left us with an amazing catalogue. Proper one-off genius. He most definitely was appreciated.

Devastated. I loved him to bits. Listen to Fall tracks all the bloody time. I hope he's landed somewhere with a decent bar and a pocket full of goodies. RIP.

Terrible, terrible news. Prestwich will never seem the same without his unworldly presence. Should be a local day of mourning and as my erstwhile colleague has suggested, we need an honourary statue in the village - or at the very least a blue plaque. Some things should go without saying! RIP

RIP A public holiday - MES Day. Certainly gets my vote!

Sorry if this seems pretentious but this poem was the first thing I thought of after learning of MES death. It's by Charles Bukowski, someone I think of as being not too far away from MES (for frankly cliched reasons, but there you go). You could argue that this is a poem for the living, but we're the important ones until we're not. It shares the same proletarian paganism perhaps? Anyway: The Laughing Heart your life is your life don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission. be on the watch. there are ways out. there is light somewhere. it may not be much light but it beats the darkness. be on the watch. the gods will offer you chances. know them. take them. you can’t beat death but you can beat death in life, sometimes. and the more often you learn to do it, the more light there will be. your life is your life. know it while you have it. you are marvelous the gods wait to delight in you.

Me: Just been in Vinyl Exchange - they were playing The Fall. I imagine they've been playing them solid since the weekend. Mate: Yeah and they could probably do that without repetition. Me: Nah I'm pretty sure they'll have played that, it's one of their best. Word for word. Honest.
