I was just looking at the tracklisting of the new Irmin Schmidt compilation Villa Wunderbar which has a disc of soundtrack material and noticing that none of the music I was particularly conscious of by him solo was present. I have this https://rateyourmusic.com/release/comp/irmin_schmidt/anthology__soundtracks_1978_1993/ which I picked up in a sale years ago after having found this https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/irmin_schmidt/filmmusik_vol__3_and_4/ coverless in my old local 2nd hand record shop. I love a couple of tracks on there Morderlied and Furst Von Atlantis which pick up on some of the elements of Can. Looks like Michael Karoli and Jackie Liebezeit are present on most of the tracks from the Discogs entry on the lp http://www.discogs.com/Irmin-Schmidt-Anthology-Soundtracks-1978-1993/release/385794 Just wondering how much work he has done solo for soundtracks and also if other people are aware of it. Would really recommend that Anthology Soundtracks 1 if you come across it. Possibly could do with a remaster since it came out in the early 90s. His Toy Planet was interesting too. anybody else familiar with this material? Stevo

Not heard this, but I have Holger Czukay's "Movies", which is also well worth picking up. Will have to investigate the Schmidt stuff. Cheers!

I have and like Toy Planet. Spotted a review of this new release recently, and it does sound my cuppa.

I agree Toy Planet is pretty great. However I can't believe after all these years I still haven't been able to find a copy of Irmin's first solo album from 1980, Filmmusik, which as best as I can tell has never been reissued on CD (or vinyl, not counting early-80s repressings), and none of the subsequent anthology collections seem to include all the tracks. Even his 12 CD set Electro Violet only includes a few of the tracks from this album. There's a possibility maybe that the 'missing' tracks have been retitled and are in fact included on Electro Violet or one of the other film music anthologies, but I can't figure it out. I guess I will try to e-mail Spoon to ask, but I bet they have too many enquiries to answer many of them. Does anyone here have any idea where I can find all the tracks from this? https://www.discogs.com/Irmin-Schmidt-Filmmusik/master/23300
