Orkgar The Hellfish and his band "Astaroth's CrabbeSticke" will release their new album "Tartarus in Tartar Sauce" in a limited edition of one on Halloween. To get it you must fight the fans of the band, known as the "Spumey Spawn" to the death and to the winner the spoils. Then Orkgar and the band will commit ritual suicide by being eaten by piranha and the remains being served in batter with lemon to Satan.

I would be glad to never hear another Roy Thomas Baker, Steve Lillywhite or Trevor Horn record. The men who took the rock out of rock.

Anyway I digress.

In that case, as someone who hates the term 'rock' and most of the music classed as such, I think they should be commended.

Give me Relax, Hand Held In Black & White or Poison Arrow over 'rock music' anyday. Three records that make virtually all these post Zep acts redundant. Horn was looking forward when he made those records, unlike all Kiss and all those other backwards looking mofos.

Keith, I noticed on your Soundtrack of our lives that you had been listening to Slade.

Please take time out and give the first 3 Kiss albums a listen and tell me the difference!?

Both Stanley and Simmons both duly admit to going to see Slade as often as possible and taking their brand of foot stomping boogie rock "n" roll and Americanizing it.

Maybe it's the Americanization you don't like but musically there is no difference my friend!

Well I wouldn't call myself a major fan by any means (I was a Bolan fan so there was a lot of rivalry!), but I always loved Coz I Luv You to name one and always thought the slightly later In For A Penny was a great Beatlish 45.

But it was good to hear the live versions of some old hits like Everyday, etc, that I hadn't heard in ages. They wrote some good songs to be fair and I guess it's time I bought a compilation. But I really didn't like their later stuff like We'll Bring The House Down. I'm struggling to see a connection with Kiss though, other than they both looked ridiculous of course! ; )

I like loads of US bands, so really can't see that being an issue.

Oddly enough,- to underline the points above, even though Slade didn't mean much in America they did have a huge influence on early KISS. Both Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley had seen them and have always acknowledge that the Slade thing of having big, shoutalong choruses and hooks, plus the flamboyant Slade presentation was definitely something they aspired to when getting KISS off the ground.

I can certainly hear Slade in some of KISS's early metal-pop anthems- the dumb-but-actually-clever thing is there.

And one man's 'ridiculous' is another man's "coooool!"

Cough. Splutter. Post Zep acts? Kiss and VH were post Sweet not post Zep. Which is ironic cos The Sweet wanted to be Deep Purple.

"Poison Arrow" was alright. Wouldn't be sorry never to hear it again but it was ok. I did have a big soft spot for "Tears Are Not Enough" though it's not funny the way "Fourth Drawer Down" is funny.

When Frankie were first on The Tube they came off like a male disco version of the Au Pairs and I was thinking "this is kind of interesting and will wind people up" but I was really disappointed by the record when it finally came out and couldn't figure out what speed to play the 12" at as it had no vocals on it. It sounded shit both ways sp I settled on 45 in the end as it was over quicker.

The "Two Tribes / War" single was great though.

As for Dollar at least their brush with fame freed up a space behind the counter at Boots. No small thing back in the era of 3m unemployed. They were better than Theatre of Hate I suppose.

Anyway I think that all this proves is that we have fairly predictable musical sensibiltiies that are products of our respective musical upbringings.

Best leave it there before Jimmy Page gets all Crowley on your ass.
