Cure re-issues
May 02, 2005, 23:42
Well I managed to get the special 2-fer reissues of Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography. So far I got through 17 Sec. and between discs of Faith -- both, in spite of the remastering, still have the drums hiked too fuckin' high and still takes a long time to configure my home theatre to balance everything. But at least I can hear the guitars more... And it helps the lyrics to Faith are printed so to reveal the whole theme of the album and show why I was drawn to it in the first place. (It seems to be about shattered faith. No wonder...)

Picked up '17 seconds' meself this week too. I was surprised how good it was to be honest. very sparse, stripped down. The extra cd left a bit to be desired but good to hear 'cult hero' again.

Will probably pick up 'faith' next week & am looking forward to it - always was my fave cure album. What's CD2 like on that one lawrence?

These albums weren't recoreded to be played on gimmick type systems but rather on a straight forward Stereo system.

I guess you can't enjoy blues music eh? Not enough scratchy victriola in living room.

Just recall what Neubauten said about the Potomak releases when they came out. About how they hadn't previously remixed for the cd medium.
Do wonder if people have to keep attempting to transfer sound from medium to medium taking in the qualities of the medium as they do so?

Think I'll get some of this CURE stuff when I make me first paycheck. Starve until then mind.

I liked the second disc on all the releases actually. Of course I tend to want to hear early demos in the making of established albums anyways, 'cos you get to find out how the songs developed and everything. The second disc for Faith has a few instrumental versions of songs that were rejected, alot of those actually sounded upbeat compaired to how Faith turned out. And "Carnage Visors" sounds alot like a better version of 'post-rock' also...

I guess if we don't jump on the latest gimmick bandwagon we are luddites - guilty as charged, but I don't give a fuck.

It generates profit for fuckers who would sell their grandmas - get a grip on the realities of life
