What are your thoughts on the best unsung punk bands? My vote goes to the Slits.

definitely one of them matey. Cut was a mighty fine album. Return...good in parts. Live they were beautifully shambolic. I saw them with Neneh Cherry in the line up and they shook my tree. The work with the New Age Steppers and Prince Far-i was better. The Cut album also kindled my bizzare interest in mud caked ladies....I've said too much haven't I? Did you call our lass a girl? As for unsung punk what about Patrik Fitzgerald remember him? love and life Fitz

Great question Arthur! Okay I'll say some of the best Unsung Punk artists are: 1. The Avengers 2. The Effigies 3. Leatherface 4. Compulsion 5. China Drum The Avengers should've been HUGE and Penelope Houston is one of THE BEST Punk singers ever. Effigies just had GREAT intelligent political rabble rousin' lyrics and the band is simply like a house on fire behind them. Amazing! For more info or proof please read my review of those 2 in Unsung. As for Leatherface, Compulsion and China Drum - the main reason I feel they're Unsung is they're all INCREDIBLE British Punk bands from the 1990's!!!!! In fact Leatherface is STILL going. But since everybody (unfairly) thinks Punk has officially been a dead, stagnant pool of music since oh I'd say 1978 they just won't listen to me. But I STILL say if you check these CD's you'd certainly think it was STILL totally alive and ready to kick your ass!!!: Leatherface:Mush Leatherface:The Last Leatherface:Horsebox Compulsion:Comforter Compulsion:The Future Is Medium China Drum:Goosefair China Drum:Self Made Maniac The Drum (formerly China Drum):Diskin And don't forget these 2: The Avengers:Died For Your Sins The Effigies:Remains Nonviewable Oh yeah and The Slits were GREAT! Them and Liliput and The Raincoats too. And what about The Mekons? Le Sam

One of the Swell Maps is a druid now!!! Some of my fav' tunes punk wise were by Spizz (and the various offshoots Spizz- oil,Spizz-energy etc....). and though not strictly punk per se, Big Black and World Domination Enterprises rocked. And the first Misfits LP 'Static Age' has my alltime fav' punk blast 'Bullet'.

Anti Nowhere League - who can forget 'I hate people'. Crass - Just about anything they did. The Ruts - 'Babylons Burning' of course, and 'Suss'. And US side Fugazi - Everything they ever did. Godspeed - the 'Houston Street' album. Skatenigs - 'stupid people shouldn't breed' The scene here in the UK isn't dead, just very well hidden. Check www.fuzzbox.org
