Actually not...
I did not "win"...
a petulant child began name calling and up-ended the game board in mid match.
Seriously though...this portion of the thread has been quite revealing as to why the LEFT desperately needs to up it's game.

...which in itself is no bad thing, of course. Not that I'm defending the tax or the u-turn.

Exactly. The 2017 Tory manifesto essentially = status quo, keep the restrictions (which don't solve the problem) but no total ban on trade.

You are funny. You know Toni didn't say that.

You are the only person here who is suggesting a conflagration of antique ivory. The 2015 Tory manifesto committed to pressing for "a total ban on ivory sales". So no-one is coming to smash your Beethoven piano, but you wouldn't be able to sell it - "ivory sales" not ivory ownership. The point being quite obviously that it's market value that drives the ongoing slaughter.

Like everyone else, you can check and see that the same commitment is not in the 2017 Tory manifesto.

Like everyone else, you can check the fact that the previous UK government did not deliver on implementing its pledge, so comments about it already being implemented, copied here by Sanctuary from elsewhere, are clearly incorrect.

But you know all that, you're just throwing stuff in to have an argument for the sake it.

That is a helluva long way off banning ivory trade completely in my eyes. They could have included both pledges if they want to and it's perfectly reasonable for people to insist on clarification now - before the election - than after when it will be too late. That's the democratic process.

Excellent. Mr Swift and tsc can now contact their local tory candidates and ask them if the ban is to be dropped. When he/she tells them it is to be dropped they will then have their proof and spread the word accordingly instead of just 'believing' it will be.

Do let us know how you get on boys won't you. Thanks in advance.

I've just emailed mine (Scott Mann) and to be fair will let you know accordingly. If you are right I will be very disappointed in them and will tell him so in no uncertain terms.

Can't be fairer than that

The last time I contacted my then-MP (now candidate) about fox hunting I got a non-commital response that deliberately avoided the question. I expect I would get exactly the same and he would, I am sure, simply quote the vague general thing in the manifesto that you already believe is the same as a commitment to implement a total ban on ivory sales.

The fact is, you can paint it whatever colour you like, the express commitment is not there this time. Nor are the comments you quoted earlier correct, as the ban was not implemented.

You won't find out how he'll play it until you do, but back out if you can't hack it.

I'm expecting the same but at least I have had the balls to do it.
