It is a nice photogenic disaster, covered from every angle. Dont get me wrong, it's a horrible thing, but how putting your penny in the box is going to compensate for the millions that have lost everything I dont know. Aid should be given, without strings, at state level, to the tune of many millions, not left to the public conscience, because, next week, we'll have something else to think about, and then the starving millions can just go fuck themselves.

"phuk'em... got wot they deserved..."

So my brothers friend desevered to go missing for 48 hours, so my work colleagues parents still deserve to be missing? Those thousands upon thousands of local people and non-local people, who have missing family members got what they deserved. The thousands of people who had their children swept away to drown deserve what they go... I can't believe you've just said what you did ron..

My brothers friend is alive safe and well and is now helping re-build some peoples lives out there with his own bare hands. Him and his travelling companions were supposed to be heading off to New Zealand this week for New Year, but they are going to stay... if I can help him I will. If he asks me for money to rebuild something I will send him money direct.

I never thought you could be so callous and shallow ron, you have disappointed me more than you ever could.

In an ideal world yes I agree with you, but in the real world no it doesn't work like that... I work for a homeless charity that deals specifically with heavy drinkers and we have to beg like buggers to get cash. We have had our funding cut to such a small level by the Government, for then next 3 years, that without public donations our homeless charity would have to shut hostels making people homeless all over again!!

Charity relies on the generosity of people with money, no-one is forcing anyone to give money. But it's nice if sometimes people do!! :o)

How exactly did anyone caught up in this get what they deserved?

People must act on their individual consciences simply because we can't rely on the conscience of the State. Personally, I couldn't watch the news footage and not contribute to the aid effort in the way I am best able without feeling like a voyeur.

There are tens of thousands of families who have just lost their only breadwinner and who are living in countries where there is no state welfare to help them through this awful time.

When the next crisis occurs I'll give money to that too. x

Lawrence, were you referring to me there? I posted that link in response to ron's comments 2nd from the top. It's certainly NOT anything to do with me posting vile comments to 10 year old children who've possibly lost their parents.

Ron (from his comments in the 2nd post) seems to think that all those missing and or devastated by the earthquake deserve what they have got.

Sorry if you thought that comment was from me.
