Life and Death

Morfe,

I agree about not messing up a beautiful thread. Your comments about US teli echo what I have said for years! So how are you!! I've not had a chance to ask that? I think you finally got the thread you were looking for and it means tons to me too. I've been reading the comments for hours, not sure how much longer I can hang about 80)

Love yer Kindred Spirit!!

Hi Shestu, I'm adjusting, but very well thankyou! Hmmm, seems to be two threads already! You can email me if you want at morfe.com, but as for life and death and TV, I am SADDENED that VIOLENCE is GLORIFIED and SEXUALISED, and SEX, and LIFE, is abhorred and despised, castrated and de-venerated. But what can you expect?? Sensation seekers sell sell sell buy buy buy. Nothing is more a short term fix than seeing someone's head blow off, nothing is as close to the mediaevil mindset gathered round the drowning wife, the burning with, the hanging thief, the slaughtered pig. But NO NIPPLES! US TV doesn't like laydeez NIPPLES, the source of infant suck-ubation, a source of manhood's hypnotization, DENIED!

I want NU-cable, a cable that celebrates life, a cable that puts the glorification of violence DOWN DOWN and brings nipples UP UP! And more Ren and Stimpy please. (Especially the violent ones, when Ren blows an internal fuse and exacts his hugely steaming terrifying revenge on an innocent Stimpy) ;-)

Whaddyadoo?

I haven't owned a TV for many years now, and as a result I often find myself flinching and nauseated at scenes of violence in films that the people I'm watching with don't bat an eyelid to.

That says lots more than I could say on such matters.

We just decided that as we can only afford $60 to buy either beach towels or a DVD player, beach towels it is!

I don't think I'm going to wean anyone off cable though, even me, I can't compete ;-)

May I ask Tombo, is it the depiction or the concept that makes you wince, or both?

Or the fact that it is 'entertainment'?

Sorry thread was not concise.

I've had it with TV and rarely watch it unless it is a documentary er somethin. I think the beach towels were an excellent choice. I love Ren and Stimpy... as long as I am not eating somethin at the time.

Truly, I am more interested in how you and your family are doing. I think we have gone the morfe.com route before and I have not been able to download the file it needs. Explorer version is too old. Well I am basically computer brain dead at this point.

Love to you and Tombo

Its the depiction AND the content that makes me wince, Morfe. The fact that its entertainment is disturbing but not really surprising, since history holds far too many examples of people using violence as entertainment. Violence will always appeal to some (perhaps even most) people as a form of entertainment, I think. This is why there's ever more violence on TV: appealing to the lowest in people, sadly, brings in the biggest audiences. There are few heads that don't turn to look at the wreckage of a car crash.

I wouldn't like to come across all Mary Whitehouse, mind! : )

where do you draw the line then ?

Between censorship and exploitation on TV. I'm interested in what you think ?

The world is a shitty place, TV doesn't reflect it accurately but acts sort of allegorically.
