Hi Eds....

As explained in the Miscellaneous, stumbled across these on Friday. Unless anyone can categorically say these are industrial waste spoil etc (if so, please remove) suggest a 'Disputed' marker is probably best here. They certainly looked like cairns to me.

They look like cairns in your pictures, quite regular shapes rather than oval or ragged shapes you often find with spoil or clearance.

On the side of the Avon Dam , where it looks like the photos are taken , are two settlements , one large with numerous hut remains in it and one smaller one with 3 or 4 hut remains in it. If you can have a look at OS 28 map , that are at SX677658 approx.

No Lubin, this is approaching Brockhill Stream from the east, that is north of Gripper's Hill. I visited the settlements you mention looking for the sadly underwhelming cist.

There are 7 cairns on that side , Jeremy Butler , Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities , Volume Four , The Southeast map 57. One is a possible ring cairn and there are 2 very close together. I would say you are correct and these are cairns in the photo. Hope that is helpful.

Thanks Lubin. That does sound as if these are some of the cairns Crossing noted in the area.
