Oh well, at least none of these people who act so badly in your eyes has been slung off here several times for being a complete and utter tiresome knob!

(You can have the last word but the point has been made).

I have returned for my last post so will have the last word thank you, but I doubt it will be yours, but just to show what a liar you are and the complete knob and twat to boot, not me.
I have never been thrown off this site. I have left a couple of times because you and your mates have done your best to destroy this forum and it has worked, but never asked to leave. It is you trouble-makers that should be shown the door.
I see this site as a seat of learning but you and said mates have brought it to its knees compared to what it once was and you should be ashamed of yourselves. Do the decent thing and leave.

Bye everyone

"what a liar you are and the complete knob and twat to boot"

That really isn't very polite. When you have to resort to personal insults, you've lost any argument really.

bye then

(does it not count as coming back if you just repeat what you said before?)

I'm no new ager. I want to know more about these places & what they mean,or meant. All I know is how they make me feel which is, I presume, for most people on this site, a sense of wonder, fascination & awe. This new enthrallment of mine is making my later life a magical time for me. Explain that. Best wishes x

Hallelujah. This thread seems to have escalated quickly since I last looked, but I'm with Carol at this small oasis of calm.

Calm is good - I only popped by because someone told me John Michell was getting a bit of a bashing. Have skins taken a lot of puncturing before? Is there usually this much fuckwittery here?

I think being in awe of magical sites is much more appealing than watching spats.

Yes, of course you can dowse for straight alignments of ancient sites, by the way.

There are as you will know many professional dowsers who make their living finding underground water, and other things. It's something I can do. For example some friends asked my to dowse the locations of some underground pipes so they would have to dig up lots of their concrete farmyard to find them. I marked the location with a bit of yellow road crayon - and guess what - the pipes were exactly where I said they would be - much to the surprise of the digger driver. If you dowse a straight alignment of ancient sites you can follow the line to find - guess what - ancient sites! I've seen dowsing work very well. I've also seen people mooning about the place with ruddy great crystal pendants finding all sorts of non-existent new-age crap. Like many things in life it depends on how much effort you are prepared to put into learning a skill.

I assumed your reply to my other post in the thread was general rather than specifically a reply to what I'd said, but I did laugh when you said you were surprised at how this thread had gone. This is kinda normal :)

I share Carol's sense of wonder, and I'm not really all that arsed about proving/disproving a theory as long as I keep getting that "wow" feeling when I go and visit somewhere good.

That's two reasons why I don't bother much with this forum - and more especially another similar one - threads get hi-jacked and the antiquated way the site handles threads makes it difficult to work out who on earth is responding to who. Keep being inspired - there are lots of magical places out there. Luckily I live in Cornwall so have a lot to visit.

No danger there!

You're blessed there. Despite being periodically told off (in a friendly way) for having a favourite, my favourite site is *still* the one in West Penwith.

John Michell did not make mistakes with measurements. That wasn't how he worked when it comes to the alignments of menhirs in West Penwith. He went and looked at what was on the ground and used large sale OS maps and aerial photos to plot his alignments. It's all set out in The Old Stones of Land's End.

He did make mistakes ,it took me 10 minutes to highlight the problems with Men an Tol. Did you miss it ?
Others pointed out the statistical and other problems decades ago .

In case you did miss it .
Here is the link to the problems of one of the “leys “ . Discovered in a few minutes last night after seeing mention of the site here . I am unaware of the particular errors having been noted before .
http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/forum/?thread=74760&message=937104

The main content being .
“The suggested Ley line is said to align with a boundary stone at 4475 3586 and this alignment is oriented to 66.5 degrees pointing to the spot where the May day sun will rise .
For starters the grid ref for men an Tol is wrong , being 29 yards from the monument .
There is no boundary stone at the suggested grid ref and neither the wrong grid ref or the correct one for Men an tol is aligned to the putative boundary stone at 66.5 degrees . Needless to say the spot given for the stone is not visible from the monument .” I should have added the actual boundary stone is not visible from the monument either .

You probabaly missed the Bob Forrest link too where you will find Bob , a chum of Michells pointing out some other mistakes with measurements .
