FIlm poems for modern antiquarians

Thought you might like these filmpoems recently posted onto YouTube. A started making the films after completing the BBC4 Originals documentary on Hawkwind in 2007, and last year made a 30-minute filmpoem (of 24 unrhyming sonnets) called Radio Carbon, which uses the metaphor of radiocarbon as a broadcast medium, and takes on parallel explorations of prehistoric, personal and present time, set to a hypnotic and deep-tissue reverie inducing sound and image track - filmed at the Roman mione at Box, Knowlton Church and ring in Dorset, Cairo and the pyramids, the Devil's Bridge in Wales, the coast of Clare, and elswhere. The film's had acclaimed showings at the Renoir cinema and Radio Gagarin, with festival appearances due in the summer. Here are the links -

There's also a much short filmpoem of Danebury Ring - published in a new anthology of British and Irish poets from Bloodaxe Books, called Identity Parade - filmed last autumn at the superb Hampshire hill fort.

Hello Tim

The links on your post didn't seem to work for me but I watched them under Megalithic Poems which did work.

Your films are very interesting and I enjoyed the Danebury Hillfort one a lot. I watched all three of the Carbon Dating films and would need to watch them again before making a constructive comment.
First impression was they are a creative and original stream of consciousness - could almost be an entry for the Turner Prize.

PS:
If you want to edit the links to ensure they work you need to log into Head to Head on the yellow bar above, find your post, click on Edit and then the Edit Post box at the bottom which will resend the amended post.

Thanks for the comments. Here are the fresh links to the film poem's YouTube page, which should work (couldn't find the edit button so am re-posting) - I've just checked them! TC

I've just watched the first of your Radio Carbon films again and will watch the other two again later when I have more time.

I enjoyed the first one very much, paying more attention to the words this time. You have balanced the words with the images beautifully.
A work of art!

That's great you enjoyed it. Best part of a year of late nights editing from hours of footage - even stuff from laybys shot in places like Martin Down on the Salisbury Road to Blandford - there's a superb book about the Dorset cursus and the environs around Martin Down farm. Half an hour is a long time in poetry,I wasn't sure if it would hold the attention of people who don't generally read it - but it seems to have worked! Tim

Enjoyed them immensely, the marriage of words/music and visual images, saw the first two RC films, still to see the third and the short Danebury Ring film, which I loved for the scenery and the poetry.. Clever ;)
