I had a look at some old maps of the tor, and there's 'St Bellarmin's Chapel (Remains of)' marked... On the 1:2500 for 1882 it's a definite rectangularish wall surrounding a little building. The latest edition 1:10,000 still has it marked, but there's only three walls.

So presumably it's still there.. better get your anorak on?

Oh it's definitely still there...a rectangular wall built into the hillside. Interestingly as well as the main earth and stone wall there is also a single stone wall about a metre outside the main wall..The well may be on the west side of the plot, just outside the wall. The site is marked on the OS map of 1814 as a ruined chapel...is this a case of OS surveyors inventing things or did some local give them false info...or was it a chapel?

....it's keeping me occupied...
