How can I get involved in the Silbury Hill conservation project... The mind boggles... the sheer lack of professionalism here is beyond belief. How much are these people at English Heritage getting paid to tell us what we already know (and not tell us what we should know).

Ay up Pilgrim lad, yer being a bit generous there with a 4/10 mark ;-) Thing that really got me was English Heritage's, Can I volunteer with the Silbury Hill Conservation Project?.* Chuckle and quote... "We are currently recruiting part-time volunteers to work in our Visitor Information Point for July and August, helping our interpretation staff to communicate with the public about Silbury Hill and the project." Wot's an 'interpretation staff' when it's at home? And if English Heritage want to 'communicate with the public' wouldn't it be better to get their Silbury updates and Ask the Experts page up to speed instead of requiring people to pay and park at Avebury, walk fifteen minutes along muddy pathways to their 'information points', or wait some six weeks for answers to their questions on their Ask the Experts page? Do get a grip on reality English Heritage... and as for yet another of your cack-handed ideas about having, "...volunteers positioned around the area to record specialists in ancient music performing on replica prehistoric instruments at the top of the Hill." Gordon Bennett! What realm of the time continuum are you actually inhabiting at present? * http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/upload/pdf/q3.pdf

Gordon Bennett! What realm of the time continuum are you actually inhabiting at present? I agree with you, Littlestone. As for the above plan; is this some kind of culmanative PR exercise intended to announce the completion of "our revamp" of Silbury? Aren't we - the great unwashed GP - supposed to keep our collective Size 12's off the Hill? This sort of thing hasn't really done much for The Long Man of Wilmington recently, has it? Perhaps we could Ask The Experts just what is their thinking behind this (un)sound experience? It seems like Silbury Hill is turning into an "By English Heritage Invitation Only"destination: First it was archaeo's, then the Druids, then the local School, the TC, and now some Musical Types. Odd. Very Odd. Peace Pilgrim X

Just to report back that on approaching a certain 3rd party to forward this I was told it already had been earlier in the week. It seems it was spotted and thought worth suggesting for consideration. Fingers crossed folks. VBB

Great. Sounds like a nice little summer jobby for you and Nigel - it would get you out of the house anyway. And you might pick up some PR skills along the way.

PR eh? That's what it'll be about will it? Well spotted. Via, of course, the interpretation staff :-) Does that amount to the interpretation bods reporting back to the onsite English Heritage PR bods who in turn report back to the English Heritage PR HQ who, (if they haven't lost the plot by this time) then decide how best not to inform the public of their activities at Silbury ;-)
