Na, I won't be there. I have a rule about Never meeting someone from the internet that I do not know their Real name.
I'm amazed at the HA'ers that last year were saying "Thank god that awefull Littlestone bloke isn't on this HH meet up" and are now kissing his arse!

I'm thrilled you will not be coming to the picnic on 5 August. Your poisonous comment repulses me.

There are several possibilities: Pete G "replied" to my post just because it was the last one in line and was being sarcastic. Or, Pete really intended to reply to my post, and was being sarcastic. Or, he was seriously replying to my post, and has a new rule. Because, of course, Pete was immensely gracious a few years back when he met with four unknowns from the Stone Pages--albeit in Jimit's and Nigel's company--and gave them a tour of Avebury. So I'm confused. But, that's not unusual.

Yes. What a nasty, spiteful comment and the dig at people who use nicknames is odd from someone who calls himself Ishmael as well as PeteG. Turn up Mr G and tell Littlestone to his face. What has he done to rattle your cage?

Hi BuckyE!

'There are several possibilities: Pete G "replied" to my post just because it was the last one in line'

Yes, I think this is the case.

Pete may have appeared to be immensely gracious to you in 2004. I do not doubt that. However I think your confusion arises due to certain fallings-out between PeteG and other members of this board over some inexcusable behaviour. I could go into some hideous and graphic detail, but I will spare you such cruelty on a public messageboard.

I for one would love to say hello, whatever date is decided. My good lady has been treating me with bemused indifference whenever I mention anything with 'megalithic' in the sentence! Perhaps backup would help her share my enthusiasm!

PS. Jane - tried dragging her along to devils quoits today, she wouldn't get out of the car so we had to drive back along to the Rollrights this afternoon. I'll go on my own next weekend! I'll let you know how I do.

Yes please! If you fancy a cuppa, please call in (we're only 3 miles from the Quoits) - we'll be in next weekend painting walls [not pictures :-( ] and will certainly welcome the opportunity to sit, drink tea and talk with you about stones! Hurrah!

Just to confirm that a few folks from here, the Stones List and the Megalithic Portal are getting together for an informal picnic at Avebury from around noon on Saturday, 5 August. This is a totally informal gathering of like-minded souls so just turn up and join in (or not join in) as the whim takes you. If you want to sound off for 5 minutes or so on your favourite stony subject I'm sure no-one will mind too much.

We thought the best place for the picnic would be in the north-east sector of the Avebury circle, a little east from the two stones that form the Cove, and roughly within the red circle that you'll find at -

http://uk8.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=public&X=410250&Y=170000&width=700&height=400&gride=410315.652321189&gridn=170065.413757362&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=freegaz&pc=&zm=1&scale=10000

For those who don't know Avebury, the Cove is close to the Red Lion Pub (to which we can retreat if the weather turns bad ;-) and about ten minutes from the Stones vegetarian restaurant, museums and National Trust shop. There are a few B&B's in and around Avebury for anyone planning to stay overnight, or there's the campsite at the Barge Inn, Honey Street, Alton Barnes, which is a drive of about twenty minutes from Avebury.

If anyone has more information on local B&Bs, campsites, pubs, restaurants and other interesting places to visit in the area please feel free to post it here.

Littlestone

PS Hope you will turn up Pete; you and I have had plenty of disagreements over the years but I've always respected you intimate knowledge of Avebury and the surrounding area. Same applies to anyone else I've disagreed with over the years. It's fun to have lively, heated debates but life's too short to hold grudges and harbour dislikes for too long. There's a roast chicken and six bottles of premium grade sake on offer - what more can I do :-)

Quality words LS. I managed to resist but your gracious response is respected by me and doubtless many others whom I know here.
