Seconded; Lovely stuff U2, and a well exciting weblog to boot (although how something plastered with big white arrows could be difficult to find is beyond me). In my mundane grocery, I salute you.

...they are burial chambers... and our hunch is that they were pretty old ones, too. Probably 6 or 7,000 years old.

Jane,

Really interesting weblog. About the tombs:-

>Many have a square cut entrance hole in the 'front' (facing roughly north) giving them a unique character.

Anyone know of any examples of this in Britain? (Real entrances cut into a placed slab, not including holes for the rising sun to shine through).

I don't know of any in the UK, but they are known in a few places in Europe methinks. I'll have a look at me books if nobody gets in first....
