Good to see you all using the new site
Aug 25, 2001, 19:35
You're all so busy browsing the new MA site (and quite right too !!!) that no one is posting here. So I thought I'd add a little something.

I visited two tombs today that are very close to where I live on the south of Dublin. The first (unnamed) tomb is about a mile outside of Enniskerry and well worth a visit, if you can find it. It took the help of a local farmer for me to locate it, but once I did it was well worth it.

Situated in the hedge of the field the is one of the nicest collapsed tombs I've seen. The upights (4ft) are nearly all in tact, with just one side collapsed in. At the rear right hand corner a huge standing stone (9ft) towers over it. Leaning on the front is a massive slab (15ft x 15ft x 3ft) that was either the roof to a collapsed 'porch' or the roof to the 4ft x 4ft chamber. A beautiful site sitting in an overgrown field.

The second is Ballybrack Dolmen. This small dolmen measures just 5ft in height and sits in the most incredible surroundings. .... in the middle of a green in a council estate. While I was taking pictures two spotty youths, who obviously hadn't a clue what a wonder they had in their midst, stood at the bus stop and stared moronically.

I will be adding these sites to my web site which should be in an announcable state by next weekend.

Happy MA trawling folks ... Ride On!
