This bit in the commentary may also be of interest -

"The speaker stands on the top of Cooper’s Hill, which, like the nearby St. Anne’s Hill, overlooks the extensive water-meadows known as Egham Mead, through which the river Thames flows on its way to London and the sea."


By strange coincidence...I was working in Coopers Hill Lane Egham today.
Chatted with a Nat Trust warden who was well informed on Denham's poem as well as another...apparently the view is now limited due to cherry trees etc and the RAF memorial....I would've climbed up to check the remaining view out...but it was battering down with rain...I wimped out!!
