Was mooching the web for something or other and found a site with a bunch of old music inkies in PDF. Some of the articles informed my listening to some degree. Quality of writing is all over the place, but I liked that a lot of music was given 1 star or whatever, as it seems to me that no one can write a bad review of something in the mags now. Anyhoo, This one made me laugh. First interview with Zoo label, Balfe, Drummond and Cope et al. Hate to say it, but Cope comes across like Rik from the Young Ones. Nice to see the various charts of the day too, the did seem a lot more varied than current efforts. Plenty to mooch about if you're interested, but this is the Zoo interview Issue (pages 18,19 and 54 and front cover no less)

Anyhoo, SOTW goes something like this
A Certain Ratio - Sextet
Never heard this before, even tho I do have Knife Slits Water and Waterline singles. Good stuff, like the rhythms and Eno-esqe ethno feel to some tracks. Always loved the dubby B-Sides of above mentioned singles too.
Banshees - Nocturne/JuJu
Thin White Rope - Red Sun EP
MDMA - Eyes Wide Open/MDMA EP
These apparently morphed into Utah Saints, but still enjoy their early rave/guitar efforts
John Foxx - Metamatic
Gary Numan/Tubeway Army - Replicas/Pleasure Principle
Fad Gadget - Fireside Favourites
Simple Minds - Reel To Real
Pixies - Surfa Rosa
The Cure - Three Imaginary Boys/Seventeen Seconds
808 State - 90
For a small time in my head, dance music never sounded as good as this. Still stands up as far as I'm concerned. I even went and bought the U.S. import vinyl version called Utd. State 90, cos it had Cubik and Boneyween on it.
New Order - Low Life/Blue Monday
Guapo - 5 Suns
Don't play this prog/noise monster nearly enough. Don't think they ever made anything so wonderful before or after.
Boredoms - Vision Creation New Sun
The Constantine's - Shine A Light
The Pop Group - We Are Time
That's About it. Read The Dave Haslam book Sonic Youth Slept On My Floor, and kinda enjoyed it. Didn't know his origins was as a Brummie lad, and we kinda crossed over the same mid-late 80's period up in Manchester.
Y'all have a groovy time!
