Portico Quartet – Art In The Age Of Automation. Over the long haul a bit jazzy/proggy samey, but there’s actually some decent tunes in here, certainly more engaging than the last album I heard by them. Tim Mislock – Now Is The Last Best Time. Tend to run a mile whenever stuff gets described as ‘ambient’ these days (read: ‘aimless drone with stupid titles’), but this is pretty good, being more guitar-based and inspired by the effects of Alzheimer’s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvPZV9noRFw Curanderos – s/t. Bardo Pond and Kohoutek improvise 40 minutes of mopey psych: rope, money for old. Noveller – A Pink Sunset For No One. These glacial guitar instrumentals fly somewhat in the face of our current climatic conditions, but they are rather great. Fans of Fripp & Eno and The Durutti Column will enjoy or your money back: https://noveller.bandcamp.com/track/deep-shelter Can – The Singles Radiohead – A Moon Shaped Pool Brain Eno – Music For Films / On Land. MFF features Eno’s scariest piece, ‘Alternative 3’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEyVqRNcz_8, written for the excellent TV hoax from 1977 of the same name, which is surely one of hauntology’s sacred texts. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmNFzBVKqyE My Bloody Valentine – Glider EP. God, this really blew the doors off on its release in 1990. Hearing ‘Soon’ at top volume is still a pretty mind-altering experience. VA – Running Down The Voodoo. Soul/funk/rock crossover comp. Have to admit that a lot of this doesn’t do much for me, but this Pure Hell punk track, while anomalous, is pretty cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-8P0uQrqvw J is for… Jericho – s/t. Whoa, had completely forgotten how good this was. Jericho (who started off as The Churchills, then became Jericho Jones) were an Israeli post-psych/proto-metal group (with a British singer), and this 1972 album is their sole release. There's a variety of styles here, but all performed with aplomb, with great playing throughout. However, the reason this album deserves ‘lost classic’ status is because of this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU9c9Nksb04 which is probably the Greatest Prog Song You’ve Never Heard. If your tastes swing in that direction, I implore you to give it a listen, as it is just perfect…
