Lovely to meet you too, Mr Corner. Yes, Julian was on fine form indeed and I got the profound sense of wellbeing that always accompanies his best shows.

I picked up Drunken Songs, Rite At Ya, the Mick Goodby booklet and the Nurse With Mound EP. Found Drunken Songs a mixed bag on first listen- it starts well but then seems to trail off into self-indulgence. I probably preferred Rite At Ya, which is definitely worth a punt if you enjoy that more meditative side of the Drude's output. And I did really enjoy the Nurse With Mound EP though it was shorter than I expected- nine songs, yes, but with a total running time of 13 minutes...

Drunken Songs improves with a few listens I've found. Quite like it :)

Early doors tonight, so I'm not going to suggest a pre-gig pint, but if anyone wants to say hi I'm 6', long grey hair, moustache, black jeans and a black leather biker jacket (unless I've put it in the cloakroom).

Yeah,I see this now after the event and I think I may well of stood right infront of you !

I look like the avatar but fatter face and my hair is kinda redish now and I had a red cardie on to match my eyes.

:o)

Nice to stand in close proximity to you !

Gonna be honest and say I wasn't that pleased to tell the truth.

The Julian I saw playing in Brighton wasn't the same Julian I saw a couple of weeks ago at The Roundhouse (or anywhere else, ever).
This week's Julian was a pissed up mummbly Julain who kept forgetting what he was saying and playing.
This weeks Julian didn't have the same charm and enthusiasum as the other Julian.
This weeks Julian seemed like he was going through the motions rather than spreading the love.

Yeah, the tour is/has come to an end and he must be knackered.
Yeah,we all forget stuff, I'm the one with the fucked up memory due to the brain tumour,I can understand that.
Yeah, those people who watched the majority of the gig through a view finder pissed me off to. I had blue/white lights cocking up my periferal vision until Julian quite rightly told them to not be cunts and put the phones away. Also because I was stood in the midst of them I also saw that they didn't clap even when they had put them away, they just stood and showed no emotion. One of those guys was busy looking up cycling websites !!Why the fuck did they come out ? Someone else would of loved those tickets.
World Shut Your Mouth..what was that all about ? Very sad.
It was also a bit of a crash ending with no time for the fake encore we all know and love. It would of been more subtle if someone had got a hook and pulled him off !

So,yeah.. I wasn't that impressed to be honest.
I love Julian and have seen him on and off stage more times than I can remember but I would prefer to forget this time.

:o/
I don't like the new "Drinking Julian". I prefer the old one thanks.

...to be slightly spooky..I also got very bad vibes as soon as he came out on stage....I didn't/don't like it.

The tour really did end there, at Cardiff was a no-show last night. Still none the wiser about the reason, but personally almost 90 quid poorer from hotel and two train tickets.

We saw him at Holmfirth 2015? I think so..first time for me ( not drunken songs..obvs:) I enjoyed it but I was also struck by the fact that there were quite a few middle aged blokes stood around filming it on their phones. It wasn't a big crowd so it was even more noticeable that they were doing it. Julian politely asked them to stop & they did, but, they were right in front of him. What's it about? I've seen folk doing that before at gigs, but not in such a sparsely attended intimate space. I found it odd:)

It may not have been me you were stood in front of, as it sounds like you were down the front and I was midway back. So thankfully I wasn't surrounded by phone jockeys.

I can't say I noticed that he was mumbly or forgetting things. I thought he was coherent and charming between songs and they generally came off well. I agree that 'World Shut Your Mouth' was lame, though: it seemed like "gotta play the hit though I don't give a shit."

All respect to the vibe you felt though, I just didn't pick up on it.

I would also rather have a cosmic acid Julian than a blokey drinking Julian but I didn't think he seemed so different the other night. In the interests of full disclosure I'd had a couple of pints myself but certainly wasn't pissed.

Was umming and ahhing about going to see him in Cardiff. Glad I didn't bother buying a ticket now.

Apparently it was postponed for a later date, if it ever comes up!

Yeah, I'm doubtful I'd be able to afford the repeat trip. This is one reason I don't go to many gigs now: last trains back are too early and hotels are expensive. With the tickets it costs upwards of £100 to go and see anyone from where we live.

Will hopefully get a refund on the tickets though.

Fingers crossed. I rarely go anywhere much now, I haven't had a car for over 2 years so in the same situation, at the mercy of last trains unless I can get a list.

I doubt I'll go and see him again now, I've pretty much lost all interest in his current offerings but still live in hope.
