I agree largely with Ian's take.
My interest in them is largely due to Steve Howe's playing, in my opinion one of the most gifted and innovative guitarists the UK has produced. His playing has real aggressive edge that contrasts nicely with some of the more bombastic elements.
And if it's good enough for Vini Reilly and Keith Levene...
Fragile is the thing I first got into by them and Going for The one is one of the best "punk never 'appened" albums you will hear from 1977.
I would also defend Relayer due to the utterly wild virtuoso shit that's going down. No time for Topographic Oceans or anything post '77 though...
Some things I will probably never warm to - Anderson's dodgy lyrics and his singing is just something that I've grown used to I suppose. I'm sure he's a lovely bloke though.
