I like cds and along with vinyl both have been a HUGE part of my life since I bought my 1st album - the debut by Boston - in the late 70s. What good is a damned download? I'm aghast.

Well, fuck that. I'll admit I've used Amazon a lot in the past, but from now on I'm buying eveything I can get hold of over the counter. I assume this probably means that publishing companies will have abandonded books in favour of the Kindle format by around 2015.

Don't entirely buy that (pardon the pub). Maybe it's a bit of a pre-emptive shout out by the major record companies trying to look all relevant and edgy seeing as they were so badly caught out and behind with downloading. Hey look, we're ahead of the game this time. I think they'd be mental to reject that format at this stage of things. There's still loads and loads of people that don't have internet access, nevermind downloading stuff.

"Don't take them away, I promise to buy more!" I don't believe magazines are over either (just NEWS mags) Oops too much capitalization and punctuation ;-)

"I for one buy only limited editions because of the added value they offer: a nice design, extra bonus gadgets, etc" I buy the CD's, limited edition or not, for the music. These fuckers don't care about the music just thier profits.

What the FUCK ?! Downloads only in future? I like an actual product for my money! I must have hundreds of cds - my entire collection! Will they still make equipment so that I can continue to play them, or will they become obselete like 78s ? PISSED OFF of Somerset.

it's an obscure news source, no verifiable sources, only the editor so it essentially heresay only pertains to Europe, which doesn't include the two largest music markets (US and Japan) and Walmart, Amazon, and Itunes are the big three sellers so don't panic yet

i doubt this will ever happen unless downloads sounded like 24 bit mastering which they don't. There is always going to be a market for real sound quality. Interestingly though, i can't believe DVD audio didn't take off and replace cds. I thought there was some great potential in sound quality for DVD audio. I bought a DVD audio copy of T.Rex's "electric warrior" and i pretty much couldn't tell the difference between that and the vinyl copy and that is a pretty good from a person who usually thinks records sound better than cds.
