I've avoided anything Veloso did since about 1980 as I was perhaps given a bum steer from a friend who told me that he went soft and worldy from then on out. As I love everything he did up to that point without exception, in retrospect I think that's hardly likely. There must be some gems I'm missing.
Anyway, it's up to you whether you think they're actually better, but you've got to admire the gall of a band naming themselves The Better Beatles and making a record full of half-baked, anomic Beatles covers that sounds like the four most prominent members of the I Don't Like The Beatles, Smeg Off Society (IDLTBSOS) were forced to do Beatles covers at gunpoint.
