Ace Records have truly hit the bullseye with this overview of Kim Fowley's 60's production/ songwriting/general vomiting all over the place and calling it rock'n'roll as well as a few of Kim's own tracks
32 songs in all, it features some of his most famous chart successes as producer ("Alley Oop", "Nutrocker", "Papa-Omm-Mow-Mow", etc) as well as illustrating how expansive Fowley's vision of rock'n'roll was in the sixties: from girl group sounds to The Lancasters' "Satan's Holiday" (with a pre-Purp R. Blackmore turning "Hall of the Mountain King" into a surfin' rave up deluxe) to the freaky B-side of the first Soft Machine single to The Belfast Gypsies' ex-Them assualt on "Gloria" to a country-fried Gene Vincent...there's something here for everybody (And yup, "The Trip" is on it, too)
An excellent rock'n'roll compilation; the kind you put on at a party and no one makes a move to take it off because it's so varied...
