Yeah, but once you reach the top of your grade you'ld still go through quite a long review process (Senior academic promotion of some descript) to jump to Senior Lecturer grade (or Reader, whatever). How that goes can also be down to the underlying position you're in post of too.

Edit : Oh and when you get into the higher grades there are no automatic pay rises anymore usually. In fact it's common that even in Lectureship posts the last few points in the grade aren't automatically given either.
