HOD, did you see this on 60 Minutes a few weeks ago?

I missed that one but I've seen plenty that indicates the old ethos of loyal soldiers carrying out insane orders by self-serving plutocrats are waning.

That said, there still are a huge number of unquestioning, nationalistic, errantly loyal Bushbots out there who'd throw themselves off a cliff if told it was the patriotic thing to do. Nucking Futs!!!!

also, a lot of soldiers will follow any orders they're given. More than a quarter of US military personnel in Iraq aren't American at all, they're foreigners who will be fast tracked for citizenship when (if) they finish their service.

If they were drafting US kids there'd be big demobnstrations ike with Vietnam. but keep it to volunteers - especially foreign ones - and nobody's going to stand up against it with Vietnam-era fury and resilience.

What a lot of people do not know is that the official US troop count, the death count, the injury figures, all of that is public....

....but on the ground in Iraq are at least another 150,000 people from private armies (Blackwater), support personell, etc. that DON'T release figures for their casualties.

The Pentagon doesn't want to return to the draft for the reasons you state.
