Do you not have access to any allotments? We got one last year, and have just harvested bumper crops of onions, potatoes, sweetcorn, beans etc, with enough stuff still growing to last us quite a while (though the freezer is full). I had no experience in growing veg' before last year, and found it fairly easy, and very rewarding. You also get to harvest the seeds too, which obviously we can plant out next year.
