You have indeed misunderstood.

"the 'good people' more often have their financial issues dealt with by financial planners, CPAs, and so on" refers to wealthier people, not to the poor. The poor have their financial issues dealt with by the bailiffs and the courts :)

Perhaps "The beautiful people" would be a more familiar term, although beauty, too, is something that ignores class boundaries.
