Well it was pretty good. It was in a way a follow up to a programme he did in 1994 called "Car Sick", in which he outlined many of the problems and ongoing situations associated with car culture. 7 years later it had some positive points, such as many cities in the UK introducing more eco-friendly alt-transport such as trams. But he was also quick to point out how governments and businesses (mostly the car and fuel industries)alike had failed to live up to their "green-wash" manifestoes and how filthy lucre still holds sway over alternative transport considerations and the gradual reduction of car culture. So while it was a little disheatening, their was a notion that some of the public (kids in particular) were at least coming round to the notion of car pollution and the general car-jacking of our way of life.
While some of the issues may seem a little obvious to some on this site, the good thing about Michael Palin doing a show like this is that he comes across to Joe and Josephine public as a genuinely decent and reasonable guy, and I think that's important to when putting vital views like this over into the mainstream.
It may be preaching to the converted here, but out in TV land there's a hell of a lot of the UNconverted and at least Michael Palin has the charm, as well as it must be said, celebrity clout, to put over this important subject, in a genuine and enertaining way. So good on him I think!
Just hope he doesn't have to come back in another 7 years wearing a filter mask!
