Ever considered them being of practical use rather than some pseudo religious stuff? Sit in a hole or structure and cover it with leaves and branches. Place bait on top of these branches. When birds land to eat food reach up, grab their legs and pull 'em in. Kill em ... eat them.

The North American natives still do this. The structures they use are drystone built (and always have been). So there's an example from real life to possibly explain the use of these little structures. I think one that has far deeper implications than them being a ritual structure.

As an aside ... how can a circle be an outlier to another one that is 3km away? Even at 300m distance I would say they are just part of the same complex, but you still couldn't say that one is an outlier to the other or that they were actually contemporary in the first place (without excavation etc).
