There's definitely a big difference, but the intention may have been the same. Lia Fail isn't as even as you think when you look at it really closely. There's a lot more unevenness than you think.


The unevenness is the key. Whatever the type of stone, there is an overall form to the irregularity. What I mean is, you can chip away at a piece of rock and always be uncovering fresh texture. The revealed texture may be different but still recognisable rock. Even Michelangelo couldn't have carved the wood textures at BCD. I'll try to post some of my close-ups into the gallery:-)
