Saw the story on the telly tonite.
Reminds me of a very similar mug that was found at Rillaton Barrow in Cornwall in 1837.
The burial mound was on land belonging to the Duchy of Cornwall, and the finds, being a treasure trove, were sent to King William IV.
The cup, then disappeared, only to turn up again after the death of George V.
It was found on his dressing table. Some stories say say it had served as a receptacle for his Majesty's collar studs, others claim he used it as a shaving mug!
The cup is now in the British Museum, all we have in Cornwall is a replica in Truro museum. <shame>
