Mad bloke called "Stoneman" at Wassu?!
Feb 07, 2002, 20:03
Well, bugger me backwards- someone else who has seen the stone circle at Wassu! I was there in December 2000 and was fascinated by the place. i made a rather nice watercolour sketch of the place actually, but there aint' no place to post it here...

The information I picked up was that they weren't as old as the British/Irish/European ones.

Did you meet a completely barking mad guide there called Stoneman? What a twat - all those pseudoscientific/spiritual theories he spouted as gospel. Yes, they are protected, by Stoneman - he is the self proclaimed guardian. What I really objected to was his encouragement to add pebbles to the top of each stone.

I noticed quite a few minor stone circles throughout Senegambia actually, some of them just on the outskirts of villages and in rough campgrounds.

Did you go to Senegambia with a company called Explore, by chance?
