My first Düül Experience was Yeti - and I still find this monster of a double album is the best thing they ever did. Nevertheless - TDL has its moments. For me it's clearly side 1 & 2 - even if most critics stand up for the improvisation & soundtrack stuff on the other disc. As far as improvisations Yeti set the mark and cannot be surpassed. On this album I prefer the shorter pieces meshed together as "syntelman's march" and "race from here to your ears". Especially "Riding On A Cloud" is brilliant! It's got some kinda mythic dimension, combined with the surrealist humour of the lyrics ("dry your ears" and stuff...). And there's the fantastic spoken coda of Side 2 - although accesible only to the German tongue - some drug-crazed hysterical ranting about the life of chicken...
They still play "Riding on a Cloud" these days and I'm looking forward to the gig in April - don't know if it's a German tour only.
