According to this morning's radio, Nick Cave is currently being hailed as a hero of the nationalist cause of Gibraltar for his song named after that very provinciality on his latest album. The bit at the end where he states "Betrayed like the Rock of Gibraltar" has got the populace swooning in admiration for Cave's recognition of Britain's cavalier attitude towards this once precious part of the Commonwealth. Cave (as interviewed by Radio 4) seems very surprised by this - after all, the song is essentially just a love song using 'The Rock Of Gibraltar' as a metaphor for solidity. But all of a sudden there's a clamour to give him the freedom of the island!
