Philip Jeck / John Oswald
Jan 27, 2003, 13:38
Two other people that spring to mind who you may be interested in are Philip Jeck, who does stuff with turntables. I've not got any of his CDs yet, but saw a piece of his at the Hayward Gallery at The Sonic Boom exhibition. It was amazing: A whole wall, floor to ceiling with knackered old turntables playing old beat-up records. Each turntable was further customised to do odd things like stick in grooves, scratch the record to bits etc etc. With all of them going it was literally a (loud) wall of sound, which as you walked along it quotations from old vinyl would leap out at you. I spent a lot of time infront of that wall!

Another is John Oswald, who has produced the best plunderphonic stuff I've heard. The 69Plunderphonics96 dbl CD set is well worth investing in. Probably wise to buy ASAP as well due to the dubious legal position that most of his recordings leave him in. More details at...
