I have been checking in every so often from sunny Bavaria, but I never logged in.

My HH name changed after I forgot my password....

Oh, cool. Well, glad you're back from the dead! I know the feeling, hahaha

You know, I've been a Fall fan almost as much as a Hatfields one and I'd never noticed the connection until you mentioned it!

I'd love to think think of MES as a Canterbury head but something tells me (maybe unfairly from his perspective) that the likes of Hatfield and the North may have been a little, er, posh for him. I remember interviews at various times (pun intended) where he'd wax lyrical (well, as much as he ever would) about his musical muses (Krautrock, dub, rap artists come to mind) but I don't recall any reference to Messrs Sinclair, Wyatt or their ilk.

Does anyone else out there know otherwise? I'm as curious as Seth to learn!

Me, too, man!
There's gotta be *something* to it. I don't think 'fitter' was ever used in a song title except in these 2 instances.

I looked up the lyrics and weirdly... there is a Canterbury connection (!)

"The Kevin Ayers scene
South of France
Plush velvet
Aback! Aback!
Aback! Aback!
Levis Fridays
Greek holidays
Barratt heritance
Barratt heritance
Barratt heritance"

I NEVER heard that first line, ever. And now I wanna believe the other line is 'Barrett heritance'.

LOL. Trouble is, there's a house builder in the UK called Barratt Homes to which I think MES may have been referring there. I much prefer your interpretation!

According to Julian, Mark E auditioned (unsuccessfully) for Henry Cow and whilst being a Cambridge band there was enough crossover between the Cambridge and Canterbury scenes to suggest that Seth may well be on the right track here.
