Robot Emperor wrote: No appearance of USA: Live: King Crimson yet. The versions of Starless, Lament and Exiles are just brilliant. Or do I just mean heavy? Stage by Bowie must be worth a mention too. I have USA in my list but I went for David Live over Stages.

The Sea Cat wrote: I hope I can squeeze this into the remit, even though it's spoken word: Bill Hicks: Flying Saucer Tour Vol 1 The best complete gig of Bill in full flow available on cd. A couple of minutes of a separate performance had to be added at the very end as the original source tape had run out before he'd finished, but you can't tell at all when listening. It's a sometimes awkward and unresponsive crowd who just don't 'get' him, but it brings out Vintage Bill, and it's a longer gig ( hour and a half ) than his usual as he really gets stuck in. There's supposed ro be more archive on the way. Let's hope so. The more Hicks these days, the better. Essential in any Head's collection. Good call. In which case I have to add Steve Wright's "I Have a Pony" album on WBros and Hick's "Shock & Awe".

Live albums are mostly something of a "Hmmm low priority" thing for me, but ones that do float my boat are... Led Zeppelin - How the West Was Won. Led Zeppelin - BBC Sessions Raw power! KISS - Alive, ALive II & Alive IV with the symphony orchestra which is insanely, joyously, ludicrously bombastic. Also a KISS straight off the mixing desk official "Bootleg" from a German gig they were selling after the gig from a few years ago (sent to my pod by the lovely Ian B). Warts n all, but you can smell the grease paint and feel the pyro heat. Top KISSperience. UFO - Strangers In The Night. Rockin! Whitesnake - Live! In the Heart of the City. One of the best 'makes you feel like you're there' live albums ever. Love it! Opeth - The Roundhouse Tapes. Apart from the awesome tunes played by a top band, you get to hear Mikael Akerfeldt's mad inter-song banter. Rick Wakeman - Journey To The Centre of the Earth. Orchestras! Dinosaurs! Rah! Yes -Yessongs - Foldy outy! Santana - Lotus. Even more foldy outy! Focus - At the Rainbow. Very, very foldy outy. Wish it was a double though. The Smiths - Rank. Focus - Nirvana - Unplugged in New York. V raw and powerful. Van Halen - Atomic Punks. Bootleg from years agone. Underworld - Everything, Everything. Live dance albums shouldn't work, but this one does as does... Justice - A Cross The Universe. Stonkin'! x

That Night Ranger guy sucks dog balls, he's like sub-sub-sub-sub-Eddie Van Halen with all licks and no taste. And the bass player is all widdly-diddly wanky bullshit as well. Though I do like Tommy Aldridge's drumming just fine. My favorite part is the album cover: Ozzy in his classic "bleach blonde hooker" phase spitting up raspberry jam! And as I recall he's posing with a midget (dwarf?) in the gatefold. Pure comedy gold!

Well fortunately the Earth comes with the USA attached, so you're ok!

The first gig I ever went to was Rick at Guildford Civic Hall, courtesy of my Mum when I was a wee sprog. The great music, banter, costume changes and swishes while he played all the highlights of JTHCOE, Henry, Arthur and some new 1984 stuff that was so-so but didn't matter. Great gig! I learnt the piano for two months afterwards beacause of it. The closest I could get to seeing Yes as I'd recently got into them all those years ago. David Hemmings.. :-)
