Quite often here we ask why the school curriculum does not include history before the romans and come up with the answer that it is because the romans persecuted the christians and so we are made to feel sorry for the christians and therefore more likely to sympathise.
Well, my 10 year old daughter started doing her history homework the other night which was about St Brigit. Here we go thinks I. Now bear in mind my daughters do not attend catholic schools and you can imagine that I was a little surprised for her to be learning about saints in any detail.
"Where's the nice bit?", you ask. Ok, here it comes. This was only an introductory way of introducing the Celtic goddess Brigid! Excellent. The book actually goes to enormous lengths to point out that St Brigit is really Brigid and that all the same qualities are ascribed to both entities.
I'm both impressed and chuffed!
Ride On!!
