Totally agree. If this had been on the excellent 'Self Civil War', it would have stood our like a sore thumb as the poorest track by far. Too on the nose and obvious. Like adding 'Give Peace A Chance' to 'Plastic Ono Band'.
I can understand it being selected as a stand-alone single for JC to protest the current state of our politics / culture. But that's it. An album track it is not. Except it looks like it is. We'll get a lot better on the album (hopefully).
Totally agree, it's a one-off, which may work on the new album, but we'll have to wait and find out. For me, I just found the whole thing unappealing, including the title. Maybe that was the intention, but from the first time I heard the song (from a live vid a while ago) I thought he was better than this, just a throwaway song title that will turn more people off than on. But that's me.
