I'd agree with the argument in principle most things lead back to Sabbath.

Quietus did a good list a few years ago..

None of the links work anymore though I think?

SunnO))) all the way, so heavy that the they needed a tree on vox, massive bass rumble built up, whole place disappears in swathes of dry ice, just as your bowels start rumbling guy walks on stage with a guitar, cranks out a mighty riff and thwock straight to your heart as a wave of bass sweeps away the clouds obscuring the stage
Saw Swans back in the 80s and whilst it was punishingly loud it wasn't test book heavy, more a case of being flayed alive rather than pounded to death.
Motorhead may have killed your lawn but they were always too rock n roll to qualify.Sabbath may have been the godfathers of heavy but downtuned to C is positively angelic these days
Godflesh had some serious bottom end but nothing like SunnO))),
Loop were stupidly loud to the extent that they kept breaking down and again weren't textbook heavy
Only things I've seen approaching SunnO))) levels of heavy were Khanate and Bong going full Hawkwind mode in a tiny club in Durham
