No Age – Goons Be Gone. Heard of, but never actually heard these guys before. Imagine an album where all the songs are inspired by Sonic Youth’s ‘Teenage Riot’, with a bit of classic Husker Du thrown in. Err, that’s quite a recommendation: https://noage.bandcamp.com/album/goons-be-gone
Plone – Puzzlewood. Brum contemporaries of Broadcast and Pram return. Entirely un-ironic library electronica, and a big influence on Ghost Box, who happen to be releasing this: https://soundcloud.com/ghost-box/sets/puzzlewood
Ian William Craig – Red Sun Through Smoke. Again, somebody else I’ve read glowing reviews of, but never heard before. Basically the ambi-drone manipulated tapes thing, but from a singer-songwriter angle. Affecting: https://ianwilliamcraig.bandcamp.com/album/red-sun-through-smoke
Warm Digits – Flight Of Ideas. North Eastern clever dance rock types. A bit like Public Service Broadcasting on speed, but kind of dated.
Rustin Man – Clockdust. Can’t remember if I’ve said anything about this before, but second album in a year-ish from returning ex-Talk Talk bassist. Melancholy, sepia-tinted balladry, tasteful but never bland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT9ukDa_b2Y
JG Thirlwell & Simon Steensland – Oscillospira. Mr Foetus returns with Swedish theatre music guy, producing an absolute beast of an orchestral Zeuhl album. Basically, if you seriously love Larks’ Tongues In Aspic and Magma, you will go gaga for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erFva0jwUT8
Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets – Live At The Roundhouse. I was a bit sniffy about this whole project… but this is really rather fab, and I’m slightly kicking myself that the upcoming Albert Hall gig has already sold out… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGgYhSon9nM
