The late William MacArthur MacKenzie of Auchterhouse and Dundee - who formed The Associates with Alan Rankine - was actually Melvin Dummar's brother-in-law. Billy married Melvin's 22 year old sister Chloe in a Las Vegas basement church in 1975. Billy MacKenzie was Chloe Dummar's third husband.

Of course, Billy MacKenzie and Chloe Dummar split up in late 1975. Billy MacKenzie returned to Scotland to form The Associates with Alan Rankine. Chloe Dummar didn't. Six months later Howard Hughes died.

Billy fled the chart success of The Associates in August 1982 to return to Dundee, the pleasures of Auchterhouse Hill and to breed Whippets. When he put together a new line up of The Associates for the 1985 "Perhaps" lp, Billy had recruited a keyboard player. His name was Howard Hughes.
