Another week of not listening to much records. Let's see...

Gil Scott Heron and Brian Jackson 1980 -- Well the cover hinted at something cool but this album tends to be a bit lackluster...

Keith: 98.6 Ain't Gonna Lie -- best tracks are the hit "98.6" and "Ain't Gonna Lie", the rest is middling 60's pop.

A belated happy new year to you all!

Ian Hawgood and Danny Norbury - Faintly Recollected
First new album of 2018! And it is impossibly gorgeous - light and gentle drones with multi-tracked cello and for some passages beautiful chimes. A half hour piece, melancholic yet light and uplifting. Bliss.

Dimitry Evgrafov - Compression of Light
Valgeir Siggurdson - Dissonance

Two of my favourite modern composition albums from last year have been on heavy rotation.

Haruka Nakamura's Piano Ensemble. Double cd of Live recordings of these spiritual hymns by this Japanese ensemble. Popul Vuh territory.

Benoit Pioulard - Slow spark, soft spark. Another lovely ambient drone album that was on repeat during the week.

Lingua Lustra - Truth rings like a bell. Real and processed bells. Lovely, especially Hymn of the Rose.

Captain Beefheart - Safe as Milk

Matt Berry - Kill the wolf

The Boo Radleys - Giant Steps. One of my aural highlights of the week. Hadn't heard it in years and sounded better than ever. A real breath of fresh air, reminding me of Faust in places. Haven't heard them do anything as good.

Bauhaus - The Sky's Gone Out.

Erykah Badhu - New Ameryka Part one.

Big Big Train - The Underfall Yard. Lush Prog

Hans Zimmer - Live in Prague

Herbie Hancock - Mwandishi, Fat Alberta Rotunda. Preferred the former.

Moon Tango – Abschaum
I heard this late 2017 release in Piccadilly Records, Manchester, and just had to get it. French band apparently, likely to appeal to Kraut and Psych fans.

S/T - Fujiya & Miyagi
Althought their Ventrillquizzing album from a few years has been played to death here I've never bought anything else by them till now. This is their latest – a collection of recent singles apparently and is hugely enjoyable after a couple of plays.

Low In High School – Morrissey
I'll be honest. For the first time ever I considered not buying this, mainly because of his recent outbursts. Then I took a while to actually listen to it. I wasn't expecting that much TBH but it's been a pleasant surprise, especially the opening 4-5 tracks.

Demolition 9 – Martin Rev
Latest from the former Suicide man. Either the album I listened to before this was exceptionally quiet or this has the loudest opening ever as I almost jumped out of my skin when it started!

Send – Wire
Object 47 – Wire
Send was such a great come-back, whereas O47 was a bit of a let-down. Whilst maybe its not their greatest material ever, the issue for me is the production. There's a murkiness and lack of spark somehow. That said I'm a big fan of the closing All Fours.

Also...
Lick My Decals Off, Baby – Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band
The Next Day – David Bowie
Drunken Songs – Julian Cope
S/T - Fujiya & Miyagi
Hot Buttered Soul – Isaac Hayes
The Best Of... - Bert Kaemfert Orchestra
Viva - La Dusseldorf
Gargoyle – Mark Lanegan Band
TFCF – Liars
The Correct Use Of Soap – Magazine
The Nearest Exit – Memory Drawings
Live At The Counter Eurovision – Misty In Roots
S/T – Moodymann
Serra (Distant Sun Remix) – Mugstar
20 Years In A Montana Missile Silo – Pere Ubu
The Race For Space - Public Service Broadcasting
Hippopotamus – Sparks
Drift – Tarwater
20 Jazz Funk Greats – Throbbing Gristle
Tanx – T.Rex
Pan – White Manna
Back To Land – Wooden Shjips
From The Velvets To The Voidoids (U.S Punk Rock Roots 1970-1978) – V/A

Very belated Happy New Year to all, hope ya'll had a blast over the festive season. Spent the day in KC's part of the world today. Long walk and beautiful Winter sunshine up on the Long Mynd today, but soooooo cold, even with my winter hiking layers (y'know, when your perspiration cools, and you get the chills a little). Anyhow, not a whole lot sounds wise this week.....

Eric Random - Subliminal 1980 -82

Cope - Autogeddon

Massive Attack - Protection

The Dead 60's - S/T

Kaiser Cheifs - Employment
Hadn't played this in years (it was a fav' of our teen nippers when it came out, and got played to death in the car). Glad to report it still has some great sing a long tunes. Couple of the tracks even remind me of the sadly defunct Pink Grease.

Fu Manchu - California Crossing

Bowie - Diamond Dogs

John Foxx and the Maths - Evidence

The Cure - Three Imaginary Boys
Maaaan I wish I hadn't given away my Boys Don't Cry 'best buy' vinyl of this all those years ago, thinking it was the same record......now I don't have one of my fav ever Cure tracks - 'World War' anymore :(

Well, that's about it, hope you have a great week, and that U.S. East Coast weather bomb doesn't drop on us later in the week.
