The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street Nick Drake - Time Of No Reply Pink Floyd - Ummagumma Amon Düül II - Live In London Amon Düül II - Vive La Trance Amon Düül II - Live At The BBC Cluster - Cluster Cluster - Cluster II Paul McCartney - McCartney Paul & Linda McCartney - Ram Wings - Wild Life Wings - Red Rose Speedway (the soniclovenoize reimagining is more satisfying than the released version; for some reason the generally weak material makes a lot more sense on a sprawling double LP, which was the original plan: http://albumsthatneverwere.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/paul-mccartney-wings-red-rose-speedway.html) The Kinks - The Kinks The Kinks - Kinda Kinks The Kinks - Kontroversy The Kinks - Face To Face Genesis - Wind & Wuthering Genesis - Seconds Out Steve Hackett - Voyage Of The Acolyte Mary Hampton - My Mother's Children La! Neu? - Blue The Beatles - Instant Karma! The Beatles - Imagine Clouds Dripping (more from the Albums That Never Were blog - the first of these doesn't entirely convince, being a bit overlong and John's contributions not quite working in this new context. But the second is brilliantly sequenced, especially the way 'Dear Boy' segues into 'Bangla Desh'. But why no 'Gimme Some Truth'? George's guitar makes this one of the most Beatle-ish sounding songs from the era. http://albumsthatneverwere.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/the-beatles-instant-karma-1970.html http://albumsthatneverwere.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/the-beatles-imagine-clouds-dripping-1971.html)

For some reason I've barely felt the inclination to listen to anything but power pop this week. Perhaps I'm feeling galvanised by the unexpected ray of hope offered by the election result, and power pop - with it's combination of uplifting melodies, ringing guitars and rhythmic urgency is the perfect accompaniment. Of course, the genre did have a did have a downbeat underside too - as evidenced by Big Star's second and third albums and some of Badfinger's slower songs, but whatever ... Big Star - No.1 Record Badfinger - Sraight Up / No Dice / Wish You Were Here (What is it with Pink Floyd and nicking other people's album titles? See also Medicine Head's "Dark Side of the Moon") The Raspberries - Greatest Blue Ash - No More No Less (Can't work out why this lot weren't huge. They had all the populist glitterstomp appeal of Slade with the melodic flair and emotional depth of Big Star, yet their one pre-re union album barely sold squat outside their home state of Ohio). Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything (OK, this is a patchy record, as are pretty much all his albums except possibly "A Wizard A true Star") but its highpoints reveal that it'd easily have been a masterpiece if only he'd had an editor). The Flamin' Groovies - Shake Some Action Stories - About Us The Moondogs - That's What Friends Are For (Liked this when it came out but it mostly just sounds like Ramones-lite these days) Scarlet Party - 101 Damnations E.P. Next week I'll stop pretending it's 1975 again and get back with the programme - honest.

David Holmes presents the Free Association, Oceans 12 S/T Incredible String Band - Hangman's Beautiful Daughter Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland Bert Jansch - Black Swan. Must track down some more Bert. This is lovely, including a bit of Beth Orton which I have a lot of time for. Budgie - The MCA albums 73-75. Quite enjoyed them really - especially the 2nd one in the series. Led Zeppelin lite? Maybe, but still worth hearing Why? - Moh Lhean. So so - not particularly essential Pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs - Feed the rats. Similar

Not a whole lot this week. My Hifi amp went 'Phhhhzzzzz', so most of the listening has been whilst driving (which I've come to hate) so not a lot sonically. Pink Floyd - Piper 2 CD edition Listened to both mono and stereo versions of the album, and enjoyed it immensely, but couldn't tell the difference between mono/stereo if I'm honest. Still my fav Floyd album. Super Furry Animals - Radiator Loving this all over again in recent weeks after not playing for nearly 10 years or so. The Claypool Lennon Delerium - Lime and Limpid Green Knowing I'm a sucker for cover versions, a pal sent me a DL of this, which has four covers of well known pysch/prog standards. Enjoyed it well enough, though non of the covers stray far from the source material. The Amazing Snakeheads - S/T Ahhh, this album is the dogs, and they were such a good band, now sadly gone the way of the Dodo. I was heartened to read that Dale has joined a new combo called 'And Yet It Lives', which have some of the menace of TAS, but so far (from my youtube tune in) for me, not quite as 'edgy'. Here's hoping they develop in more interesting ways in the months to come. Touring UK around September time...will deffo check em' out live. Well that be it, see yus around!
