EMA – #HORROR OST. Given her credentials as a talented musician with something to say about the modern world, I’m surprised that Erika M Anderson hasn’t become more a name to drop in hipster circles, though maybe that’s for the best. Here she adds another string to her bow with this soundtrack album, which effectively runs through all the horror tropes you’d expect – from Bernard Herrmann to John Carpenter – but also contains this beautiful, glacial pop number: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaXQMyJ2AEU

Howes – 3.5 Degrees. Wonky woozatronica, pretty much a direct splice between Holden and BOC, nice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4Df132tHEQ

Kaseciarz – Gay Acid. Yes, it was the title that made me play it. Polish group mining a seam somewhere between 70s rock and melodic post-hardcore, pretty good: https://kaseciarz.bandcamp.com/album/gay-acid

The Duke St Workshop – Tales of HP Lovecraft. I really like this, two HP Lovecraft stories – From Beyond and The Hound – set to Ghost Box-esque electronica which genuinely enhances the readings, was actually a little freaked out the first couple of listens. Other than Jeff Wayne’s War Of The Worlds (or course!), can anybody think of any other decent examples of this kind of thing?

Robert Calvert – Lucky Leif & The Longships. Ah, the golden age of the 70s, where you were allowed to make bonkers stuff like this and have it released on a major label… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rvOQby7uBU

Hawkwind – The 1999 Party / Of Time & Stars. Haven’t listened to The 1999 Party before, in fact I tend to avoid listening to live Hawkwind stuff in general because Space Ritual cannot be beaten, but I do like this rockier version of The Watcher: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42w47APLO4A

Vince Guaraldi – Peanuts Portraits. Took the kids to see the Peanuts Movie, then listened to this during tea afterwards. Who can resist this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6zypc_LhnM
