I've been scratching my head, since first seeing this thread appear. It's a proper tricky one to respond to. We've all enjoyed some bonkers music, whether mashed or straight, I'm sure. For me, a recent experience was augmented by the fabulously bonkers White Noise album: http://www.allmusic.com/album/an-electric-storm-mw0000360766

Wood pigeons do vary , in their limited song . I don't think it's a regional explantion although you can get slight variations regionally . I'm a bit of a saddo , I record them . Much easier to analyse than skylarks , blackbirds etc , pity Bitterns are so limited regionally .

Looks like Mice are next on the singing list ,although it means dropping the "song" a couple of octaves before it's even audible to us .

There is actually an off-shoot of metal music with animal frontmen and frontbitches. Caninus is probably the most popular: Bite the Hand That Breeds You

There are various Butthole Surfers songs which are crazy as hell. All brilliant. 1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9duSZL_-mM 2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkQQms-D_4k 3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_36va50Xvk 4) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO8vBVUaKvk

Wouldn''t have expected too much melody ,but even Wood Pigeons are more interesting rhythmically . Animals as front men /leaders ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt-RoSzsEKA Not a huge fan but they are very popular .

I think it's the band holding the dog back. His side-project The Beagles makes nothing but catchy psychedelic popsongs.

(Again) another factoid I remember hearing is that birds have different "accents" in the cities and country. They sing in a slightly higher pitch in the city because it bounces off buildings better, but the deeper pitch travels better in open spaces and the woods.

UP! were very popular with student shredders a few years ago dunno about punters though .
