And on a related note a friend who has a guitar workshop on Denmark St said the shops and 12 Bar were under threat in relation to the Crossrail development. There's a tiny alley behind the 12 Bar and they want to widen it cutting it and the guitar shops in half! The powers that be want boutiques apparently...

Bastards. Those shops are part of rock music heritage. They should all be listed.

List of shops to go.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/table/2013/feb/07/hmv-stores-closed-full-list

Don't know if that includes Fopp's as yet. Hope not!

EDIT - Passed the Manc HMV a bit earlier and they've started putting up "Store Closing" and "Everything Must Go* - up to 50% off" banners up. Felt quite sorry for the bloke on the step-ladder hanging the signs.

*Other Manic Street Preachers albums also available. 8^|

No, it doesn't. Looks like buying Fopp was the only good business move they made in recent years

Well, I'm very glad if Fopp is going to stay (for the 'foreseeable future' it sez thereabouts)

I am quite surprised the Manchester HMV has gone, or is going rather, in terms of where it is, smack dab in the city centre. I know there's others in places like the Trafford Centre (or was?).

Update.

The Manchester City centre branch, once on the hitlist and having a closing down sale, is now proudly displalying "We're here to stay!" posters and seems to be business as was usual.

The Jessop's opposite has re-opened too. I think a Dragon's Den drongo has had a claw in that.

Fopp still there - huzzah x 10

Anyway, I hope the previously laid off people are no longer laid off!

We have to go to Bristol to shop HMV and Fopp now.

Our Jessops is dead too.
