It's taken me this long to think of my luxury item...can I take a never ending supply of Coca Cola?

I like it!
I've been a dyed in the wool Coke drinker since the 70s and still can't well deal with Pepsi or RC or any knockoffs. I drink 4-6 Cokes a day, every day. No diet shit either but the real McCoy only. My dentist pays off his Ferrari thru me.
Back in the 80s when they pulled that "new Coke" bullshit on us I was ready to lead a revolt. If they hadn't come out with Coke Classic I was ready to lay down my life in protest!

How about the Mexican Cokes? No Fructose.

Or Moxie, like Coke from the 60's ...

If we shared an island we'd have an entertaining time with your organ and my Moog! As it were.

Well I asked for a piano so we could form Emerson Wakeman and Argent. Hemp capes all round.

You do realise that no-one will ever come close enough to rescue you? ; )

The Prog People are everywhere. They are just waiting for a sign from the heavens to unleash triple necked mayhem. Or failing that a quiet word from Jon Anderson.

wow, that does sound good.

I keep thinking of things I left out. I'm deffo missing some King Crimson from my list frinstance. Court of the Crimson King or Red maybe?

Red for me. I think I would take Starless of all the Crimson tunes as it has a lovely tune and does the quiet-heavy thing with er ... aplomb.

I'm glad this isn't real. KC, Kate Bush, Floyd, Genesis, Agitation Free, Popol Vuh, Tangerine Dream, Cope, Lee Perry, Be Bop Deluxe all had to go on the subs bench among many many others.

If you're interest in Zep boots this is a good list, covers the best shows and interesting others

glad to see the Japan 71 boots getting some love, non of them are soundboards but they still sound great and Zep play their socks off, recommended

edit plus they are all easily findable on the net, and despite certain protestations I'm not going to lose sleep over d/l'ing bootlegs

Careering - great choice! but then again I'd be torn between that and Poptones. And how could I possibly leave out the Captain? Circumstances or Bat Chain Puller?? Arrrgh!

Only 8 songs? That's nearly impossible! ;-)

Fortunately I like long tracks anyway . . .

Miles Davis - Right Off*
Emerson Lake & Palmer - Tarkus
The Guess Who - American Woman (live version)
Jimi Hendrix - 1983 Merman Suite (counts as one piece right?)
Karlheinz Stockhausen - Hymnen (whole thing counts as a 2 hour song?)
John Coltrane - side one suite from "Meditations"
Frank Zappa - Holiday in Berlin (another suite of short songs)
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Arc (bet it would sound good on a hot day)

* 46 minute track "Zimbabwe" from "Pangaea" album is a classic chillout, would be tempted to substitute that for one of these others.

Radio 4 just did a listeners' "best of" where non celebs could send in their own selections and they were compiled into a chart.

So, if you could pick eight pieces of music and one luxury item for a long stay in sun-drenched solitary what would they be?

...Obviously too many options etc...but the following eight songs were the ones I picked. I tried not to ponder too much and the criteria was songs I'd want to listen to often on a desert isle...

1. Earthbeat by The Slits (fave)
2. Before the Bullfight by David Sylvian
3. Prelude to 110 or 220/Women of the World by Jim O'Rourke
4. Living Proof by Cat Power
5. Persian Love by Holger Czukay
6. Old Glory by Harvey Milk
7. The Seven Samurai End Theme by Ryuichi Sakamoto
8. Cold Blooded Old Times by Smog

People mentioned books and I plumped for The Periodic Table by Primo Levi...
