I know what you mean! But in the end no energy was required - it just kind of seeps and crawls into you, it's that slow and long!!

I shall muster up the effort! Apart from anything else, it's really unfair for me to write it off after just one play. I can't even remember what it sounded like now!

Best move. If only is was as love/hate thing. It's more love/look-at-it-shake-your-head-wonder-if-your-missing-something-then-realise-no-that's-what-it-sounds-like kinda thing

Nah - I think you are missing something. It might take a few plays to uncover it, but underneath the scuzzy lo-fi exterior there's a gifted classic pop songwriter at work.

I can see where you're both coming from TBH. Can't say i was totally engaged by what i heard but then again i don't think the sonics on my computer can really do them justice either .

That said, what i heard reminded me a bit of MGMT's Congratulations, albeit on a 50p budget. Or maybe listening to the evening programs on Radio 1 c.1980 after overdoing the Liberty Caps.

Some good hooks and melodies underlay the general fuckedupness of it all, so as you mentioned, i'm pretty certain repeated plays would bring a greater appreciation too.

Next up, The Phantom Band.

that would have made my list if not for the 2 tracks without Lanegan, they drag it down from 5 to 4 stars IMHO, glad to see someone else rates the Mono CD too.
